After spending nearly two years away from the public eye, Afrobeats singer and producer Denny Zee has finally spoken about the reason behind his absence and what inspired his return to the music scene.

The Epe-born artist recently resurfaced with a fresh single titled Werk, which he describes as the first taste of a renewed sound and identity.

According to Denny Zee, stepping away from music was not a setback but a deliberate decision to reassess his direction, grow creatively, and come back stronger.

He explained that the break allowed him to study his craft, refine his artistic vision, and restructure his brand.

With renewed confidence, the singer believes his latest release has the potential to outperform his earlier records such as Joh, Bana, and Tender, which helped establish his presence in the Afrobeats space.

Denny Zee also reflected on his previous deal with Nuul Gang, a Sweden-based record label owned by an international DJ.

He credited the experience with expanding his global reach, exposing him to international collaborations, and sharpening his understanding of the music business beyond local boundaries.

Speaking on his rebranding journey, the singer described his current phase as a complete evolution of sound and purpose. He noted that his upcoming releases, including multiple singles and a much-anticipated EP, will explore themes of joy,

hustle, struggle, resilience, and ambition. These elements, he said, are expressed through a confident yet emotionally aware artistic persona.

According to Denny Zee, his goal goes beyond chasing hits or short-term recognition.

He sees himself as a creative force positioned between soul and sound, using authenticity, creativity, and determination to shape the next wave of Afro-inspired music.

He also emphasized his openness to collaborations and experimenting with new sonic directions.

Raised in Lagos, Denny Zee’s sound draws from a diverse mix of Afrobeat, Afrofusion, Afroswing, and Reggaeton, with subtle influences of R&B and soul. He describes his music as rhythm-driven yet meaningful, designed to move listeners physically while still telling relatable stories.

Beyond his personal catalog, the singer has made notable contributions as a songwriter and producer, working with established acts such as Rude Boy of P-Square and the duo Bracket.

He believes storytelling, melody, and emotional depth remain central to his impact within the industry.
