A socio-cutural group, Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, has called for calm over the state government’s suspension of this year’s Sallah durbar event slated for Wednesday July 21.
DAILY POST recalls that the state government on Tuesday night cancelled the event, citing security reasons.
A statement by the National President of the union, Alhaji Aliyu Ottan Uthman, in Ilorin on Wednesday, said “security of lives and property takes precedence over every other thing.”
He said, “It is important to remember that security of lives and properties is the primary obligation of any government.
“We therefore, call for understanding of what we know to be a tough decision of the government to suspend the 2021 durbar on security grounds,” he added.
Uthman, appealed to the people not to read bad faith to the decision especially, because, the government had on its own contributed immensely to the preparation for the epochal cultural event.
He prayed Almighty Allah to spare the lives of the citizens till another year for a bigger and more colourful edition of the Sallah durbar event.
