The Jigawa State High Court sitting in Gumel has sentenced two friends to four years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The defendants, Muhammad Sani and Rabilu Usman were on 25/04/ 2019 arraigned before the higher court over alleged robbery.
The suspects allegedly conspired and robbed one Alhaji Saminu Hussaini of Dantanoma Quarters Area of Gumel Local Government.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses and tendered extrajudicial statements of the defendants in evidence.
Presiding Judge, Justice Abubakar Mohammed Sambo, said the court found that the offence of armed robbery was not established against two defendants by the prosecution.
He said the defendants were guilty of lesser offences of criminal conspiracy and abetment based on the prosecution’s evidence.
The court therefore sentenced the defendants to four years imprisonment for each of the two offences.
The sentence will run concurrently and include the days already spent in detention awaiting trial since 2019.
