A factional Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun State, Adeyemi Samson has alleged that he was abducted and assaulted by some thugs loyal to an aide of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Azeez Adeyemi.

Samson, while addressing newsmen at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye on Monday, said trouble started between him and the Special Assistant to Gov Abiodun on Students Affairs because he had on different occasions refused to support him in plotting ‘coup’ against some students leaders.

According to him, Adeyemi, he was at Ago Iwoye to welcome the Governor on his project inspection and continuation of his local government election campaigns to the area.

“Just as we were registering our presence to the Governor, one of Adeyemi’s thugs and well known cultist popularly called Wale Da-Gold dragged me from behind to the midst of some suspected cultists where I was beaten to a pulp and as well humiliated. After the beating, I was whisked away and taken to police headquarters, Eleweran.

“Meanwhile, before we got to Eleweran, My belongings such as: iPhones, wristwatch, cash, shoes, clothes, ATM card, voter card, power bank, bag and other documents were taken from me, before my car was also towed to Eeweran, Abeokuta.

“After attempts to intimidate me at the state police headquarters, they told me that they found a gun in my vehicle. This is an emphatic lie and it has no substance of truth,” he alleged.

In his demand, Samson sought the “immediate removal of Adeyemi as the Special Assistant on Student Matters, as he is not fit for such a role and can no longer represent us anymore in Ogun.”

He stressed that, “We give a seven-day ultimatum for this to be done. If Adeyemi Azeez remains in office after the expiration of that seven-day ultimatum, we are going to storm the Governor office in thousands.

“Also we request an immediate release of our Aluta Sienna Bus impounded at the police headquarters unjustly.

“We also request a continuation into the investigation of unraveling the authentic owners of the guns in question.

“A refund of belongings stolen from me by the suspected cult boys who kidnapped me from Ijebu to Abeokuta.

“In conclusion, it is important to state, that on no account have I ever in any capacity stood against the government of the day, in fact, we have records of publications where we have thanked Governor for different laudable acts done for our students and the state at large, and given progressive ideas to the governor on students-related matters.

“In this case, because history will not forget all that we will be doing today, I will fight this to a logical end,” he stressed.

But, in another pressure briefing on Monday, the other faction led by Damilola Simeon and recognised by the governor’s aide, debunked the allegations as untrue.

Simeon said his rival was being used by some politicians to disrupt the peace of Ogun State and destabilise the government of Gov Abiodun.

He said “some unscrupulous elements who call themselves students union leaders are planning to carry out a nefarious attacks” in some areas of the State.

It was said that, “These criminal elements, led by one Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, a criminal who parades himself around as a factional Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC are being sponsored by some federal lawmakers to cause mayhem and disrupt the peace the good people of Ogun State have been enjoying for the past two years.”

He described the abduction of Samson as an arrest, saying, “the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on July 15th, 2021 made a citizen arrest of Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, an impostor during the visit of Governor Dapo Abiodun to Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North local government area of the State.

“Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, who has been parading himself as NANS Ogun Chairman for months and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, was arrested with guns in his possession. He was later handed over to the Police for investigation.

“But, the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the Department for State Security Service (DSS) later called for a meeting between the group of Ajasa and my Exco to resolve the lingering crisis in Ogun NANS amicably.

“After several hours of the meeting, the issue was resolved with a warning to Ajasa and his cohorts to stop parading themselves around as NANS leadership and to desist from any action that could breach the peace of the State.

“However, Ajasa’s group reneged on their promise and threatened to unleash terror on the people of the State.

“We want to state categorically that, this act is nothing but a criminal act that is targeted at destabilising the peace of the State.

“We therefore, want to use this medium to call on the Ogun State Police Command, the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and other Security agencies to be on the alert and go after these unscrupulous elements arrest and prosecute them.

“These people have breached a peace agreement signed between the Police and the DSS and have vowed to cause mayhem in the State under the pretence of the said protest, we called on the police to immediately go after them and their sponsors before any further harm would be done on the people of the State.”

“We wish to also state that the reconciliation meeting was facilitated by the Special Assistant to the Governor Abiodun on Students’ Matters who has resolved to pursue peace and harmony among the students constituency in the State and that he has no part whatsoever in the current imbroglio in NANS other than brokering the peace meeting.”

DAILY POST reports that the governor’s aide had earlier denied any involvement in the attack on Samson.

“I want to reiterate that I still believe in the oneness and family status of our dear constituency and still committed as ever to seek the best interest and embrace every structure.

“Contrary to what is being spread around, I have no hands in the recent altercation among our NANS Comrades.

“While the issue is purely a NANS OGUN issue, it is also an highly undesirable development that must be jettisoned in the future and vehemently discouraged.

“Consequently, I took the first step in a bid to broker peace between both parties by meeting with the Students Union President of Olabisi Onabanjo University as well as other OOU Students leaders.

“The meeting was a most productive one and has set the tone for subsequent discussions towards perpetual peace in our constituency,” he stated.
