The 661 Nigerian Air Force Hospital Laboratory (661 NAFH) in Ikeja, Lagos, has received the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189:2012 accreditation.

The recognition, for quality management systems and excellent service delivery, comes the second consecutive time.

The certificate was presented to Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, at the NAF headquarters in Abuja by Dr Tosan Erhabor, the Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

Erhabor recalled that the 661 NAFH Laboratory was the first to be accredited in 2016 and continues to lead in quality management systems.

The Registrar said the facility was the first in the military to key into ISO 15189, the hallmark of quality.

“The accreditation indicates that NAF is committed to doing the right thing even when no one is watching”, he said.

Erhabor commended the security unit’s role gallant in the fight against insurgency, armed banditry and other forms of criminality.

The Air chief thanked the MLSCN for existing collaboration, especially the standardisation and improvement of NAF laboratories.

Amao disclosed that efforts are ongoing to send competent personnel to other laboratories as well mass supply of reagents.

The CAS announced plans to further train medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria and foreign countries.

“Very soon, the NAF School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine will admit students for technician courses, including medical laboratory technicians”, Amao added.
