Chairman of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) also known as Amotekun in Oyo State, General Kunle Togun (rtd) has revealed that eleven monarchs from Oke Ogun geo-political zone in Oyo State wrote a petition against the creation of Oke Ogun State.
Togun said that the petition was written during the military administration.
The former Director of Military Intelligence made this disclosures while speaking at the 14th national congress of National Association of Saki Elite (NASE) themed “Power in Unity” held at Saki Town Hall on Saturday.
Present at the event were Chairman, Chief Justice of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola, representative of wife of the Deputy Governor, Professor Amdalat Olaniyan, Prince Adeyinka Afonja, outgoing President of NASE, Mr. Wale Oladokun and the newly inaugurated President of NASE,
Dr. Amos Aderemi Ayoola.
DAILY POST reports that the indigenes of Oke Ogun geo-political zone have been clamouring for the creation of Oke Ogun state out of Oyo State.
But, the Saki-born former military intelligence director, while speaking, noted that Oke Ogun state had already been created during General Ibrahim Babangida military administration.
He, however, said that it was eleven monarchs in the zone who wrote a petition to Babangida not to create the State.
Togun said that the eleven monarchs said that Oke Ogun State should not be created if Oyo is not part of it.
Togun said, “11 monarchs in Oke Ogun wrote a petition against creation of Oke Ogun State.
“11 monarchs wrote a letter to Babangida that if Oyo is not part of the Oke Ogun State, they do not want it.
“Oke Ogun State was already created during Babangida administration.
“Saki Elite Lagos chapter started the move for the creation of Oke Ogun State”.
Togun while speaking further, cautioned the indigenes of Saki against introducing religious bias as the basis for the running the affairs of the town in general.
“Under no condition, do not bring religious issues to the affairs of the Saki Elite.
“My opposition to the introduction of religion to Saki affairs made many people to hate me in Saki,” he said.
